How Long Will a Power Station Run a Washing Machine?

Washing machines draw about 400 W on average (500 W running, 1,200 W start-up). A 1,000 Wh power station runs one for about 2.1 h. See every popular model below, or calculate with your exact device.

How we calculate it

Runtime = capacity (Wh) × 0.85 ÷ 400 W

For three loads of laundry you need about 1,420 Wh (1,200 Wh of energy plus inverter losses). Running other devices at the same time? Add them in the runtime calculator.

Tips to run your washing machine longer

  • Use cold water: front-loaders with a built-in heater can draw 1,500–2,000 W while heating water.
  • The motor needs a short start-up surge (around 1,200 W) and up to ~500 W during the spin cycle.
  • An electric dryer (5,000 W+, 240 V) is out of reach for portable power stations. Line-dry instead.

Frequently asked questions

How long will a 1000Wh power station run a washing machine?

About 2.1 h, based on an average draw of 400 W and 85% inverter efficiency.

How many watts does a washing machine use?

Typically about 500 W while running and up to 1,200 W for a moment at start-up. Averaged over time it draws about 400 W because it cycles on and off.

What size power station do I need for three loads of laundry?

At least 1,420 Wh. The smallest model in our comparison that covers it is the EcoFlow DELTA 2 Max (2,048 Wh, about 4.4 h).
